What Is a CBC Test?

A CBC test is a blood test that provides an analysis of the total count of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This type of blood test is often requested when a person is being seen for a specific type of illness, such as anemia, cancer, an infection such as AIDS/HIV, or any other type of illness which might affect the blood counts. Knowing how many of each type of blood cell a person has may indicate a certain type of diagnosis. For example, a patient who has a higher than normal white blood cell count is most likely fighting off some type of infection.

What Is a 5-Panel Drug Screen?

A 5-panel drug screen is the type of drug test used during a job application process or drug abuse monitoring program. The five drugs that are typically tested for are cocaine, amphetamines, marijuana, PCP, and basic opiates. These tests are extremely accurate and will often show a positive result for even the tiniest amount of a drug in a patient’s system. To perform the test, a small amount of urine will be sampled and put through a screening process that will identify types of drugs mentioned above.

How Are STD Tests Performed?

Testing begins with an examination of the area to look for symptoms like bumps or swelling, as well as a review of any symptoms you may be having. Tests used to diagnose STDs are performed through the use of blood, bodily fluid, and urine. In most cases, however, a urinalysis will provide an accurate diagnosis for conditions like gonorrhea and chlamydia. A blood test is the most effective way of diagnosing HIV or the AIDS virus. These types of tests are performed under complete confidentiality and the results are only delivered to the patient.
